MDCN Housemanship Vacancies 2026 Portal Opening Update

Medical and Dental Practitioners seeking for housemanship training should take note that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) is pleased to inform eligible candidates that the vacancies for housemanship placements in the federal institutions will be available/updated on the MDCN portal on Monday 11th May, 2026 at 9:00 a.m.

All interested applicants who intend to serve in Federal Hospitals are advised to check the portal for available slots as placement is based on availability and approved capacity (Nigerian housemanship update), a fact that is important for newly inducted medical and dental practitioners who are to begin their mandatory housemanship training in Nigeria.

MDCN Housemanship Portal Update for Federal Hospitals

The housemanship vacancies being released are strictly applicable to the 48 Federals training institutions approved by the Centralized Housemanship Placement System, with each hospital having the approved number of slots for its house officers determined by the training capacity and regulatory requirements.

Applicants should note that if a federal hospital of choice is not showing on the MDCN Portal, this means that no vacancy currently exists in that institution as availability is updated periodically based on completion of previous postings and institutional approval.

This centralized system guarantees fairness, transparency and proper distribution of housemanship placements in the federal institutions in Nigeria.

Registration on the MDCN Housemanship Portal

This is to inform all the newly registered doctors, that as soon as you receive your provisional registration certificate after the induction ceremony, you are required to create a profile on the MDCN Housemanship portal, which is a mandatory registration platform for all candidates seeking housemanship postings in federal hospitals.

Creating a profile on the portal allows one to apply for housemanship in any of the 48 Federal training institutions across the country, all of which are under the supervision and management of the MDCN.

Provisional Registration and Practicing Licence Requirement

Prospective house officers are also expected to ensure that they acquire:

  • Valid Certificate of Provisional Registration.
  • Current Annual Practicing Licence that will be valid throughout the entire housemanship period.

Failure to meet these requirements may affect placement eligibility, leading to delays and/or disqualification through the centralized posting system.

Important Warning to Applicants

Applicants are strongly advised not to directly contact or send application letters to any of the Federal institutions or to the MDCN either personally or through agents, including parents or third parties.

Such actions are a contravention of the Centralized Housemanship Placement System, and implementing these practices can lead to denial of access to the housemanship portal since they infringe on existing MDCN policies and placement guidelines.

All applications to the federal hospitals should be done only at the MDCN Housemanship Portal.

Important Notes on Federal and Non-Federal Housemanship Placements

  • This update applies strictly to the 48 Federal hospitals approved for the placement of housemanship through a centralized system.
  • Each hospital has a fixed number of approved slots for doctors, based on required training parameters.
  • If a federal hospital is not presented in the list, it means that there is no vacancy in that institution at the moment.

Apart from federal hospitals, there are 84 non-federal hospitals (state, private, and military) and there are housemanship placements in these hospitals which can be obtained by approaching the individual hospitals directly, as applicable.

Once housemanship begins at a non-federal hospital, the house officer is to indicate the hospital on the MDCN portal for proper documentation and monitoring.
