The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has opened applications for its 2026 Social Policy Internship Programme for Nigerian students. About the UNICEF Social Policy Internship

Purpose of the Assignment
The Social Policy Internship is designed to ensure practical learning and professional development for students of diverse academic backgrounds. The interns will assist in the real-time programme planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting under close supervision by the experienced and professional UNICEF staff.
The interns will be cooperating with UNICEF staff, government partners, and the implementing agencies. The role also entails working in collaboration with other sections within UNICEF to ensure coordinated and sustainable programme results.
Key Responsibilities
The interns chosen for Social Policy section are expected to undertake the following duties:
- Contribute to preparations of analytical reports and other documentation to advocate for expanded social protection coverage for children using data.
- Provide support for coordination and management of social protection/public finance/governance related technical assistance.
- Assist in Social Policy programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
- Monitor consistency of programmes and ensure data quality based on project management standards.
- Prepare data reports for internal and external programme reporting purposes and present them.
- Provide data in a timely manner, for use in programme design, review, and implementation.
- Provide logistical support to the section, including organizing meetings and engaging government partners.
- Any other duty deemed necessary to support the Social Policy section and field offices’ operation shall be carried out.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Educational Qualification
Applicants must be Nigerian undergraduates at 200 levels or above currently enrolled in a recognized university. They must be studying in any of the following fields:
- Social Sciences
- Administration
- Public Policy
- Other relevant disciplines.
Candidates must present academic performance through recent academic records or, where unavailable, a reference letter from an academic supervisor.
Experience and Technical Skills
Work experience is not required, and this particular internship is suited for those who want their first glimpse into a professional environment.
Work experience in programme support, research, or administration will be an added advantage.
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, report writing, data management, and analysis is required.
Language Requirements
English language fluency is compulsory. Knowledge of another UN official language or a relevant local Nigerian language will be an asset.
Internship Status and Conditions
- Interns are not considered as staff of UNICEF and may not officially represent the organization in any way. An applicant may not have immediate relatives (parents or siblings) working in any UNICEF office.
- Applicants should also not have relatives within the direct line of authority under which the intern will report.

- A referral letter from either the Head of Department or the Students’ Affairs Department.
