The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has opened the 2026 recruitment exercise and is inviting suitably qualified Nigerians to apply for various vacancies at the Nigeria National Office. This recruitment drive is aimed at strengthening WAEC’s workforce in examination administration, finance, ICT, audit and secretarial services.

West African Examination Council (WAEC) remains one of the most respected examination bodies in West Africa, responsible for conducting major examinations such as West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and related examinations. List of Available Vacancies and Qualifications

1. Assistant Examinations Officer III (General Duties):

  • The applicants must have a National Diploma (ND) or NCE from a recognised institution.
  • Applicants have to be computer literate.
  • In addition, applicants must have five (5) credits in SSCE/WASSCE, including English Language and Mathematics, at one sitting, or six (6) credits, including English Language and Mathematics, at not more than two sittings.

2. Assistant Examinations Officer III (Accounts)

  • This position requires a National Diploma or NCE. They must have ND in Accountancy, Banking and Finance from a recognised institution, or Accounting Technicians Scheme (ATS) Certificate of ICAN or ACCA.
  • Computer literacy skills are a must.

3. Assistant Examinations Officer III (Information and Communication Technology)

  • Applicants must have a National Diploma or NCE in Computer Science, Information and Communication Technology, or any related discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Other requirements are with regards to SSCE/WASSCE credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

4. Assistant Examinations Officer III (Audit)

  • Applicants must have a National Diploma or NCE, with a National Diploma in Accountancy from a recognised institution.
  • Candidates must also be computer literate, while the required SSCE/WASSCE credits conditions are in place.

5. Confidential Secretary V

  • Applicants should have an OND in Secretarial Studies, Secretarial Administration, or Office Technology Management from a recognised institution.
  • SSCE/WASSCE credits are relevant.

Senior Level Positions

1. Examinations Officer (General Duties)

  • Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree or HND in any discipline from a recognised institution, along with an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate.
  • They must also have the required credits in SSCE/WASSCE.

2. Examinations Officer (Accounts)

  • Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, Banking and Finance, or a related discipline from a recognised institution, with a valid NYSC certificate.
  • Candidates must also have the NYSC certificate. Professional qualifications like ICAN or ACCA will be a plus.

3. Examinations Officer (Information and Communication Technology)

  • Applicants must also have an NYSC certificate in addition to a Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Computer Science, ICT, or any related discipline from a recognised institution. Relevant professional certifications will add value to an applicant’s profile.

4. Confidential Secretary II

  • Candidates must have Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Secretarial Studies, Secretarial Administration or Office Technology Management from a recognised institution.
  • NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate is mandatory, whereas professional qualification is an added advantage.

General Requirements for All Applicants

All applicants must comply with the following conditions, regardless of the position they are applying for:

  • Skills in operating personal computers and MS Office software packages.
  • Use of web-based systems Team work, interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical, communication and influencing skills Planning, organising, and adapting to change.
  • Five (5) credits in SSCE/WASSCE, including English Language and Mathematics at one sitting, or six (6) credits at not more than two sittings.
  • The applicants must not exceed forty (40) years on the closing date for the application.

However, WAEC will shortlist candidates on merit and organisational needs, thus, basic requirements do not guarantee candidates’ selection.
