Talent Lab Limited, on behalf of a reputable client, has announced a new recruitment drive for Data Collectors to support a short-term national health data project. This opportunity is ideal for qualified individuals seeking hands-on field experience in public health research, digital health systems, and large-scale data collection.
The engagement is scheduled to run for three weeks and will cover 2,808 Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities across twelve states in Nigeria. Selected candidates will play a key role in assessing how prepared PHC facilities are for the deployment of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
Overview of the Data Collection Project
The project is designed to support Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to strengthen primary healthcare through digital transformation. The focus is on evaluating the readiness of BHCPF-supported PHCs to transition from paper-based medical records to electronic systems.
During the three-week exercise, Data Collectors will gather facility-level information that will inform EMR pilot implementation and scale-up plans. The assessment will look closely at the availability of technical infrastructure, existing workflows, staff capacity, and overall organizational readiness within selected PHC facilities.
Findings from this exercise will help stakeholders identify gaps, prioritize interventions, and plan practical steps toward modernizing health records management at the primary care level.
This is a fixed-term field assignment with intensive daily activities, making it suitable for individuals who can work efficiently under time-bound conditions.
Data Collectors will be deployed across the following states:
- Adamawa
- Bauchi
- Niger
- Nasarawa
- Kano
- Jigawa
- Anambra
- Imo
- Akwa Ibom
- Rivers
- Oyo
- Lagos State
Applicants are expected to have good familiarity with local communities in their assigned state, as this will support smooth access to PHC facilities and effective engagement with health workers.
Eligibility Requirements
This opportunity is open to candidates with relevant academic backgrounds and strong fieldwork skills.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum of an ND or Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Informatics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of local communities within the assigned state.
- Fluency in one or more indigenous languages such as Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, or Nigerian Pidgin.
- Ability to use electronic tools for data collection and surveys.
- Good prioritization and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain focused and productive under pressure.
- Candidates with prior experience using digital data collection platforms such as ODK or similar tools will have an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be actively involved in all stages of the field data collection process.
Key responsibilities include:
- Participating in mandatory training sessions covering study objectives, data collection tools, digital platforms, and ethical guidelines.
- Collecting accurate and complete data on PHC infrastructure, service workflows, workforce capacity, and data use and reporting practices.
- Using standardized ODK tools to gather information across an average of 26 PHC facilities during the assignment.
- Supporting pilot testing of data collection instruments and contributing feedback for tool refinement where required.
- Submitting clean, complete and timely data from each facility visited on a daily basis.
- Carrying out additional tasks assigned by supervisors to ensure smooth field operations.
- Attention to detail and adherence to data quality standards are critical for this role.
